- In all the cases you cited, we would not be hearing about it IF the shooter had been arrested and was facing trial.That is the key issue in the Martin case: His shooter was NOT ARRESTED.

- Sondis, if Zimmerman has simply stayed in his SUV instead of running after Trayvon (against the wishes of the police dispatcher), he never would have been within 10 feet of him. The ONLY justification for self defense would have been in Trayvon had walked toward Zimmerman in the SUV.

- Cyndi, the issue isn't just that an innocent person was killed. It's that the PERSON WHO DID IT wasn't charged. Your example of the murdered couple would be relevant ONLY if the police decided that the person who killed them was acting in self-defense. Which of course didn't happen.

- The latest National Hurricane Center discussion of the storm contains some very interesting information for NYC residents: Irene is apparently exhibiting a very unusual wind-strength pattern, with the winds at the top of the hurricane much stronger than those at ground level.
